NECA Field Leadership Essentials Train-The-Trainer (2-Day In-Person Training)- Day 1
Presented by Emily Huesman and Steve Allred of NECA
Field leaders are on the frontline of every electrical contractor’s success and the success of our industry. To enhance the leadership skills of new and up-and-coming field leaders, NECA developed a one-day course called Field Leadership Essentials. This two-day train-the-trainer will teach new instructors how to deliver that course.
Day 1: Learn the basics of adult learning theory and facilitation skills. Course creators will guide you through the program content.
Day 2: Facilitate a short section of the program and receive feedback from peers.
By the end of this train-the-trainer program, you will be able to:
- Explain the purpose, structure, and key modules of the Field Leadership Essentials course so you can confidently introduce it to field leaders.
- Describe the main skills and behaviours Field Leadership Essentials develops in field leaders (communication, crew support, leadership, safety, productivity, and costs).
- Apply core principles of adult learning to your delivery of Field Leadership Essentials, including building on experience, respecting autonomy, and using practical examples.
- Use key facilitation skills—asking effective questions, managing discussions, debriefing activities, and handling challenging participants—while working through the FLE modules.
- Navigate the instructor guide, slides, and student workbook so you know exactly how to set up, run, and debrief each activity in Field Leadership Essentials.
- Facilitate at least one section of the Field Leadership Essentials program and receive feedback on your delivery from peers and course facilitators.
This gives you low-risk practice and concrete suggestions before you deliver the course on your own. - Adapt Field Leadership Essentials examples, discussions, and scenarios to your own company, local IBEW context, and provincial requirements while staying true to the core outcomes.
