Program Overview
The ECAO Emerging Contractor Training Grant is designed to support small electrical contractors in Ontario by removing financial barriers to professional development. This initiative provides up to $1,500 in training credits per contractor to encourage skills development, safety improvements, and workforce enhancement.
Program Highlights:
- Annual Budget: $20,000
- Maximum Credit per Contractor: $1,500
- Eligible Contractors: Electrical contractors with 15 full-time employees or fewer (approximately 30,000 hours or fewer annually)
- Eligible Training: All ECAO-offered courses through the Learning Centre (excluding PROMEX, WSIB Health and Safety Excellence, and Certi-Fire programs)
- Program Period: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026
Important: Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be processed in the order received until the annual budget is fully allocated. Early application is strongly encouraged.
How It Works
The program operates on a reimbursement-based model:
- Apply: Submit your application by December 31, 2026, to confirm eligibility
- Enroll: Register and pay for approved ECAO training courses
- Complete: Finish your course between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026
- Submit Documentation: Provide a certificate of completion within 30 days of course completion
- Receive Credit: Get your reimbursement credit within 60 days of documentation submission
Application Review Timeline: Applicants will be notified of their approval status within 15 business days of submitting their application, or upon request if they wish to know if they are eligible for coverage for an upcoming course.
Eligibility Requirements
Contractor Qualifications
- 15 full-time employees or fewer (approximately 30,000 hours or fewer annually)
- Current member in good standing with local ECA and ECAO
- Operating in Ontario
Training Eligibility
- All courses offered through ECAO’s Learning Centre from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026
- Excluded Programs: PROMEX, WSIB Health and Safety Excellence, and Certi-Fire
Ineligible Expenses
The grant does not cover:
- Travel expenses related to training
- Accommodation costs
- Meals or personal expenses
- Courses outside the ECAO Learning Centre
- Training completed outside the eligible program period (January 1 – December 31, 2026)

Application Process
Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis with rolling quarterly reviews.
Reapplication Policy: Contractors may submit multiple applications throughout the program year, provided they have not exceeded the $1,500 maximum reimbursement limit. However, reapplications will be placed at the end of the processing queue to ensure fair access for first-time applicants.
